Frances Emily Clarke — known in the family as Tim — was born at Waimate North in 1884.
She married David Scott, whose brother Walter married her sister Mary Edith.
Both brothers farmed neighbouring properties at Oparau, and both suffered the disasters typical of pioneering back-blocks farming — fire, floods, depressed markets, and the grinding isolation of the King Country.
Frances died at Ngutunui, at the home of her sister Mary, in 1953.
