Henry Tacy Clarke Jnr

1883–1957 Solicitor

Henry Tacy Clarke Junior was born in Auckland on 6 March 1883 and died at Whangaparāoa on 20 December 1957.

He was appointed solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand on 20 March 1923. He married Margaret Findlay (born 15 January 1892).

Their daughter Christine Margaret Clarke, born 18 May 1930, became a librarian — serving ten years at the Auckland Library system and then twenty-nine years at the Whakatane Public Library, where she became a life member of the Historical Society. She is a link in an unbroken chain: her great-great-grandfather George Clarke built the first substantial library of Māori-language literature through his newspaper Te Karere o Nui Tireni; she has spent her career caring for books.
