Sarah Nisbet Clarke

1856-04-07, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia to 1951-06-13, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Sarah Nisbet Clarke — known to the family as Poppy — was born in Hobart on 7 April 1856 and lived to the extraordinary age of ninety-five. She was a teacher for much of her working life, eventually running her own girls' school and a night school for boys and men who wanted to improve their education. She lived at a house adjoining 'Summerhome' in Moonah, Tasmania — her father's home, and the former Giblin's Academy where he had studied as a boy — in a house she called 'Blomfield,' after the family's Norfolk name. Poppy died in Hobart on 13 June 1951.
